The Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRAI), also known as the Human Rights Activists, is a non-governmental organization working to protect and promote the status of human rights in Iran. Since its establishment in 2005, despite significant challenges, the organization has tirelessly worked to defend human rights, provide educational content, offer legal services, and conduct field activities.
Committed to neutrality and avoiding political affiliation, our goal has always been to highlight human rights issues in Iran, regardless of any political, religious, ethnic, or gender bias. Our focus has been on both online and offline activities in Iran. Our offline activities set us apart, allowing us to maintain a real and direct understanding of the human rights situation on the ground.
Throughout our years of operation, our work has been recognized and validated by a vast network of volunteers, prominent activists, and professional human rights defense organizations. For our achievements, we have paid a heavy price, including years of imprisonment, exile, and even the deaths of personnel.
We take pride in our diverse and inclusive leadership, which includes the presence of women who make up half of our staff capacity and leadership roles, as well as individuals from minority and marginalized groups at these levels. This commitment reflects our mission to oppose all forms of discrimination and monopoly.
In addition to our ongoing activities in various fields, our work has evolved over time; in recent years, we have focused on several key initiatives: Dadgostar (a comprehensive database of human rights violators), Kardanian (empowering workers), and the Pasdaran Documentation Project (a database of human rights violating institutions).
Furthermore, thanks to a widespread network of trained documenters inside Iran and advanced documentation systems, our organization plays a key role in monitoring the human rights situation and accurately documenting human rights violations. Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) produces more than 40% of first-hand reports on the human rights situation in Iran annually.
Over the years, the activists' collective has produced a growing body of educational materials, including 16 books on various topics such as introduction to international labor law, how to document human rights violations, and principled training for human rights defenders. Additionally, we publish regular annual reports in both Persian and Gregorian calendars, along with weekly, monthly, and event-based reports.
